Nevada has unique and interesting animals with unique characteristics. There are some highly venomous snakes, which are active in southern Nevada. The various animals that are found in Nevada are mule deer, bighorn sheep, elk, antelope, black bear, beaver, raccoon, brush rabbit, kit fox, mountain lion and many more. There are many amazing birds that have made Nevada as their home. They are the American crow, golden eagle, great horned owl, northern flicker etc.

Spring brings venomous snakes out into the open. Hikers and other outdoor people are advised to be aware of their surroundings and take a few precautions to minimize encounters with snakes. In winter, viewing hawks, eagles and other raptors is a fun family activity. Moopa valley provides a perfect setting for viewing them and can be viewed easily using equipment like binoculars and spotting scopes. The other kinds of birds that can be viewed in this season are waterfowl.

Nevada’s wide open spaces, like the empty grounds provide a great opportunity for hunting. Urban development has created an artificial wildlife friendly environment that is attracting several species of wildlife. On the flip side many of these species invite unwanted predators. Landscaping with trees, shrubs etc., done for urban beautification provide food, shelter and water for several species belonging to Nevada wildlife.

Nevada’s climatic conditions sometimes affect the population growth of animals to quite an extent. Threatened and endangered species serve as a red flag for overall health of the environment. One of the most critical processes threatening wildlife conservation is the conversion of shrubs to annual grasses and other kinds of vegetation.

Nevada has established a department called the “Nevada Department of Wildlife” that protects and restores the wildlife in Nevada. It also ensures safe boating in Nevada waters. Another important organization, which was established as a leading voice for the issues that affect wildlife, is the “Nevada wildlife federation.” Nevada department of wildlife maintains and continuously updates a species management program.

Who knew the “Silver State” could be so much fun? If you haven’t planned a second Nevada vacation because you’ve already been to Las Vegas, it’s time to start packing. There are hundreds of other attractions to tempt the most seasoned tourist. We can’t discuss Nevada vacations without mentioning what’s there for skiers. Lake Tahoe, on the California/Nevada border, boasts world famous ski runs and plenty of other winter sports venues. Up in northeastern Nevada, ski buffs should check out Elko in the Ruby Mountains. This gorgeous area offers year-round mountain sports. Whether you want to spend your time in Nevada hiking, fishing or skiing, you’ll find the perfect spot to do it all. There are lots of other ways to spend your time, though, and here’s information on some of those.

Another great place for families near Lake Mead is Henderson, Nevada. Although it’s moving rapidly toward three hundred thousand residents, careful planning has kept Henderson an attractive, family-friendly place to live and visit. Special attention has been given to creating beautiful outdoor parks and recreation spaces, so plan to spend time exploring the sporting possibilities. Lake Mead, of course, is a marvelous place to play, and having Henderson nearby ensures a multitude of vacation experiences. One more place we simply must mention for families coming to Nevada-its theme parks! From Ultimate Rush & Thrill Park in Reno to GameWorks, AdventureDome and the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, there’s something for adrenaline junkies of all ages. Check their websites for special offers to make the trip even more irresistible, and don’t forget to bring your camera!

If you absolutely love NASCAR racing, there’s no better place to see it live than Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This well-planned track is a favorite among fans, especially those inside the action at the infield RV camp! For more hands-on auto racing fun, book a day with the drivers at racing schools run by Jeff Gordon, Richard Petty and Mario Andretti. Vacationers who prefer the driver in their golf bag should definitely plan a trip around the nationally-ranked courses in Nevada. Of special note are Wolf Creek in Mesquite and Edgewood Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe. Bring your clubs and settle in for a week (or two!) of golfing excitement. There are so many more exciting activities to explore in Nevada! Pick one or two for this trip, then indulge a whole other set of senses on the next vacation. Answer the call of the desert; it’s a wonderland of vacation excitement.

There is more to Nevada than just the decadent city of Las Vegas—but a trip to the state would certainly be incomplete without seeing a place nicknamed “America’s Playground.” With millions of vibrant lights, dozens of luxury casino resorts and elaborate entertainment, Las Vegas is certainly a feast for the eyes.

Beyond Las Vegas are other top tourist areas. Explore the history of Hoover Dam during your travels. The 726-foot structure borders Arizona and Nevada and is the second tallest dam in the country. Another must see is Lake Tahoe, which rests on the California/Nevada border and is the perfect getaway for snow-sport enthusiasts. Choose from a variety of activities such as skiing, snowboarding, sledding, sleigh riding and snowmobiling while staying at some of the country’s top ski resorts. Be sure to stop off in Reno, just a short drive away, and view the stunning architecture and rich art scene.

Las Vegas is a man made attraction that has attracted thousands of people from all across the world. Las Vegas is known for their casinos and bright neon lights. There are several Clark County communities that come together to form Las Vegas including Henderson which has the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. However, you don’t have to like gambling to come to Las Vegas, there are many other options including several natural outdoor recreational activities. One of these options is Lake Mead National Recreation Area which is near Boulder City and the Valley of Fire State Park. And then there is no shortage of clubs along the Las Vegas Strip that you can choose from to keep you busy all night long. Despite the size of Las Vegas it isn’t the capital of Nevada. Carson City is the capital of Nevada and is located near Reno and Lake Tahoe. Many choose to come to Carson City as a result of its close proximity to outdoor activities including many skiing and snowboarding sites in the winter. Although, like most large cities in Nevada you can still find some casinos if you want to do a little gambling while you are there.

There is no shortage of accommodation in Nevada and many of them are the hippest hotels you will find in the entire United States. Many of these hotels come with excellent service and amenities so the only hard trouble is figuring out which one you want to stay at. However, if you are looking for something a little different than the standard Las Vegas hotels you should consider the Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa. This hotel isn’t located along the strip, instead most rooms overlook the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation and the architecture and design is built to look like the natural wonder that it overlooks. So this makes it an excellent option for those who want outdoors in their Las Vegas vacation.

The Hoover Dam gets its name from the country’s 31st President Herbert Hoover who was supporting the project long before he became the President. It was, in fact, during his stint as the Secretary of Commerce that Hoover began developing a plan that would tame the unruly Colorado River and provide necessary electricity and irrigation to the peoples of Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. It culminated in the legislation called the Boulder Canyon Project Act that was passed in 1928. Hoover Dam’s measurements are mind blowing, especially for the early 1930s. Workers used 4,360,000 cubic yards of pure concrete in its construction, making the dam the first edifice to contain more masonry than Egypt’s Great Pyramids. The dam itself now ranks in as the 18th highest dam in the world, standing 726.4 feet tall and measuring 1,244 feet wide at the top of the structure. The dam weighs an estimated 6.6 million tons!

In addition to the production of power and irrigation measures for the Southwest, Hoover Dam also created a fantastic body of water, Lake Mead. A whopping 146,000 acres, Lake Mead is a fantastic destination that is visited by flocks of individuals each year. The warm Nevada sunshine graces the lake that is situated a few miles from Sin City itself, Las Vegas. If you are interested in visiting Hoover Dam, be sure to check out the visitor’s center and take a behind the scenes tour. Completed in the mid-1990s, the visitor’s center is interactive and full of information about the building and purpose of the dam. If you plan on going on a walking tour, be sure to bring your walking shoes, as you will walk across the very top of the dam itself.
